Do It Yourself Emergency Kit

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

My husband made 4 of these Emergency Kits last Christmas and gave them to each of our immediate families. You can personalize them to match your needs and even do one with just food and water! Having these little luxuries in an easy to carry duffel bag would mean so much to us if we had mere moments to evacuate our home.

Keep this in an easy to find place. We keep our in the closet next to the front door. Also, you may want to add to it throughout the year. It would be a good idea to open it up and inspect it once or twice a year. Give yourself a visual reference as to what’s in there so if the time comes to use it, you’ll remember more easily what you have.

Putting all this stuff together may seem like a daunting task. If you take it little by little, you’ll see that it’s not that hard and it won’t be such a hit on your bank account. Before you know it, you’ll have an emergency kit and a sense of security knowing you’re covered if an emergency hits.

Earthquake!

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

It wasn’t the big one, but it certainly was a frightening one! Yesterday’s earthquake rocked Southern California! I was visiting my mom at her home in Diamond Bar, one city away from Chino Hills, when it hit. My mom, daughter and I huddled under the doorway as the ground shook and pictures came flying off the walls. Once the quake stopped, we went outside on the front lawn. Neighbors were checking on each other as car alarms blared in the distance. Within moments we heard police and fire sirens. It was very scary. We couldn’t get anywhere on the phone. Land lines and cell phones were unable to get signals and connect us to family members. My niece was home alone in Chino Hills and her family was spread out in nearby cities.

How I Celebrated My Birthday!

Friday, July 25th, 2008

I turned 48 years old on July 14th. My husband kept me up until midnight because he likes to be the first to wish me a happy birthday! So I started the birthday celebration with a kiss and then 7 hours of sleep, glorious sleep! When I woke up, I had to pack for the beach. My friend Donna, her 23 year old daughter, Bria and my 10 year old daughter were going to the beach for my birthday! We ate on the pier and Bria surprised me with a handmade fruit bouquet! ( I can’t celebrate with birthday cake because I am a type 2 Diabetic). Then we walked down to the beach. We put out blankets and towels and beach chairs. Our daughters went to check out the water. So far, so good. I have felt like an old 47 year old and 48 was now here! Why don’t I just celebrate by falling down and breaking a hip and getting some rest on a hospital gurney! Any how, I planted my butt into a beach chair and watched the girls.

Daddy Knows Best!

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Oh, sure, I had my doubts about my husband’s parenting. Of course, I thought I was a better parent. After all, I was the one with the extra clothing packed and ready in the car, I was the one with detangler and a hairbrush in my purse, I pre-packed single serving snacks in baggies and kept them in a drawer specifically for kid approved snacks! When we went to a restaurant I took crayons, pencils, mini notepads, wipes, Cheerios, my purse looked like the inside of the 99 cent store!
